7 Surprising or not so surprising effects Sleep Deprivation has on us humans

Feels like I'm at my breaking point. Like at full breaking point, I need sleep.
Hugo hasn't been well & he's not slept for well over a week - before that : Yes i was in Italy (Child free) however I wasn't laying back & relaxing, we pretty much backpacked over Italy through Pisa, Florence & Venice. It was amazing but exhausting, Then add the flight being delayed so not getting home till gone 2am...

Last night I lay there after getting up with Hugo at 12 he then woke every 10-15minutes.

I'm pretty sure no one knows what tired is until you have children.
You can't just go to bed when you feel like it when your a parent.
Typically Hugo will sleep anywhere in the daytime...

Lack of sleep really is bad for you, today i am so tired I feel like an emotional wreck to put it bluntly. 
Did you know sleep deprivation can cause :

Sleepiness causes accidents :

Sleep loss is a big public safety hazard every day on the road. Drowsiness can slow reaction time as much as drink driving,
Studies also show that sleep loss can also lead to accidents & injuries on the job. 

Sleep loss dumbs you down :

Ha it really does, sleep plays a critical role in thinking & learning, It impairs your attention, alertness, concentrating, reasoning & problem solving. 

I presume this is where the 'baby brain' came from either being pregnant or having a new born lack of sleep will make you forget everything.

Sleepiness is depressing :

Over time, lack of sleep can contribute to the symptoms of depression. 
At the moment all I want to do is cry. Yep cry & cry & cry. 
I'm exhausted.
Insomnia & depression feed on each other. sleep loss often aggravates the symptoms of depression, depression can make it more difficult to fall asleep... 

Sleep deprivation AGES YOUR SKIN :

Oh my god I know now why after having children my face has really suffered. 
Bags under your eyes - check
Extra wrinkles - check
urgh.

Sleepiness makes you forgetful :

Well you can say that again.... Sleepiness makes you forgetful.....
My days have all blurred into one very blurry day recently. 
I try & put my milk into the dishwasher & my dirty bowl into the fridge. 
I even forget when I've finished my coffee go to take a sip to UH OH IT's ALL GONE!

I recently read that lack of sleep may increase risk of death ... 

I don't fancy talking about dying anytime soon so I'll ignore that 'fact'.

Lack of sleep kills your sex drive :

I'm not one to talk about what happens behind closed doors however what I will say is :

"Sleep specialists say that sleep-deprived men and women report lower libidos and less interest in sex. Depleted energy, sleepiness, and increased tension may be largely to blame.
For men with sleep apnea, a respiratory problem that interrupts sleep, there may be another factor in the sexual slump. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in 2002 suggests that many men with sleep apnea also have low testosterone levels. In the study, nearly half of the men who suffered from severe sleep apnea also secreted abnormally low levels of testosterone during the night."
