It’s no secret that I love to upcycle. You simply can’t beat the feeling of creating beautiful items with your own owo hands.
I’m always on the lookout for inspiration about what to create next and sometimes it can be found in the most unlikely of places, even in a skip!
If you’re willing to get your hands a little dirty, skips can be a treasure trove of unwanted items which, with a little bit of elbow grease and TLC, can be transformed from trash into treasure.
Wooden pallets are fantastic examples. They can be used to create a whole variety of furniture, including simple coffee tables like the one below.
Even a humble brick can be transformed into a great little ornament for your garden or balcony. Just take a look at these wonderful planter and tea light holders! These would also make a great gift.
Finding everyday household items like old cutlery can lead to moments of inspiration, resulting in unique talking points for your home, like these fantastic coat hooks.
You’ll be amazed at some of the fantastic pieces of furniture people throw away, just because they think it’s gone out of fashion. Keep an eye out for dressers, chairs, cupboards or any other items that take your fancy and would fit perfectly in your home after a good makeover!
If you want to start looking for items to upcycle, look out for buildings with scaffolding. This can mean there might also be a skip at the site!
Always remember to ask permission before taking anything from a skip. You don’t want to be accused of stealing!
Another good option is to simply contact a skip provider such as CJ Metals (http://www.cjmetals.co.uk/) and see if it has any gems that you can salvage before it’s recycled!
