Accidental Christmas

This years Christmas has been the most surreal Christmas yet. You know the saying 'everything happens for a reason'
I totally feel this I'm a strong Christian but Christmasses for us really sometimes do get forgotten & presents do take over perhaps we needed a shock to the system, a bringing back down to what's really important.
On the night before Christmas Eve laying on the floor of my sisters room cuddling a wriggly Hugo listening to the storm beating down on the roof tops hearing the water coming into the house. Yes we saved all the Christmas presents but I laid there not thinking about opening them the following day but thinking hoping that our house will be ok. That all my friends & family around the country are ok! Thinking of all without power & tiny babies needing their bottles. Must of been awful! Especially the night before Christmas Eve.

Waking up on Christmas Eve to no power & a flooded house... My first thought was 'shit... This is just shit shit shit!' Apologies I know I never swear but I 'think' this could warrant the Shhhh word. Having to wade around the house in my Hunters with Hugo in my arms not freaking ideal. Emilyn on the other hand loved it she thought it was brilliant to have 'muddy puddles' EVERYWHERE!
After trying to abandon ship & get a hot coffee (didn't work all roads where closed or like this... Yep that's a brand new Audi being washed away...

This is meant to be a field !

Thankfully our trusty Campervan has a gas cooker! Coffee!!

At around 3pm it's Christmas Eve after all we had the tough decision of what are we going to do?! Stay in a flooded house & wait it out? Or try & get a house somewhere else?
Fortunately we managed to get a rather large 11bedroom house/mansion to stay in for as long as needed (we didn't break in I promise) my parents have good connections shall we say.
We took 3 cars to fit everything in all our food & we took some presents. But if I'm honest I just wasn't fussed I was just so glad we were altogether.

(A devil in disguise) for a few months we've been discussing going away with the whole of our side of the immediate family but for all of us & the dogs you're talking a lot of money!!

The house was huge & beautiful with a few playrooms a huge kitchen, the outside toys & space was amazing I wanted to take this Wendy house home!

Ok so we had a Christmas tree our family food & a wonderful house but still Christmas just felt a bit strange. We didn't open presents till almost 3pm... Well behaved children well they did have a big playroom full of toys!

Overall though we did have a beautiful Christmas I think the reason I couldn't fully relax was because the house back home was still a state I knew when we go home that it would be a stressful time.

The whole Christmas wasn't like our normal Christmas it was kind of tainted I suppose.

The children got overly spoilt with toys though of course Hugo got an electric car & radio controlled car Emilyn got her REX! & her 'mac' v-tech laptop don't forget those robot dogs she loves!!

Trampoline fun!

We had all been Dreading to go back home, but luckily we haven't lost too much stuff the electric in the lounge doesn't work so suspect it'll need to be rewired & we will need our rugs professionally cleaned. Nintendo Wii had no hope water poured out when I picked it up. I think I saved 50+ of DVDs I tried to dry them out will wait & see.
We did manage to save 30+ years of photos though

This glitch in our life has brought me further back down to earth why do we need to be so materialistic?
I'm going to pitch up a tree house in the woods & live there !!
I'm thankful for my lovely family,
I'm thankful we all like to be around each other & get on.
I'm thankful for life.
What I've learnt? Carry on as we are & never take life too seriously.
Smile more than cry there's always a new day.
When Life throws lemons at you. Make lemonade !
Merry Christmas let's have a prosperous New Year!

Christmas Eve VS UK Storm flooded house

Power cut plus no sleep for over 24 hours.... Tends to send you over the edge.

It's so frustrating I had this Christmas superbly planned out down to all the extra bought batteries for the loud crazy toys for the children.
For us though this Christmas won't be spent in our newly built home. Nor will it be spent at my parents. For their house is well & truly flooded. I spent 12 wasted hours cleaning it over the weekend for the arrival of my Gran. You the typically trying to make this Christmas perfect. Well with the whole of the downstairs flooded & the power out in both houses as well as all the villages around is too it seems.
Christmas for many people will be ruined.
The past couple of days have been the most surreal overwhelming experience I've had / we've had for a while.
It all started Christmas Eve Eve 23rd Dec 2013 - the storm was getting bad after a very wet & windy day. Around 8pm my Dad came over & said the lounge was flooding. We can (just about) cope with the lounge flooding it happens a lot. A lot a lot. But we cope this however wasn't the (norm) no way no way!
Around 11pm I text my little sister asking if she was ok? & asked if the house was ok. She then inform me about the power cut. You know that feeling the storm getting worse you can hear the trees blowing around the rain bashing down on the roof.
About 12:30am our house alarm started Mr.H & I looked at each other "what on earth is that?" Neither of us knew what the alarm was & we didn't like it either.
We decided then to abandon ship! We picked up our sleepy babies & ran through the driveway to my parents house. By this point the lounge was a sea of water..
We set up camp in my younger sisters room. E still had her toddler bed in her old room she went straight to sleep. But Mr.H,Hugo & I tried desperately to sleep... But with the storm screaming & worried for our house & my parents. Sleep just wasn't going to happen.
Roll on 4 hours... I heard the front door go. I then hear my parents talking "the waters getting in the conservatory now, have we any more torches?"
Que Mr.H & I... With our trusty iPhone torches we went to see how we could help.
Luckily we had put all the Christmas presents on the dining table thank god we did they would of all been ruined otherwise...
Water coming in from every corner after about an hour of trying to save the house we gave up. The most surreal thing I couldn't get my head around it. It's Christmas Eve I just saying but in reality it felt like something from the Titanic!! Mr.H & Dad went to our house to check the alarm out. It was a pressure alarm basically with my parents house flooding in the electric cupboard our house went into panic mode... Whilst the men were doing that my Mum & I tried to rescue old photos from the flooded lounge.
We can loose books & toys & DVDs but you can't replace 40 years of photographs.
We tried to go back to sleep... It didn't work. At 5:30 the little people were awake & we decided to make a dash back home... Thank goodness for my candle obsession, I made the house look lovely. Inside Mr.H & I felt physically sick Christmas Eve my bum! I tried to go back to sleep but it didn't work.

8am we all woke to find the chaos. Water in some places deeper than my wellies!
I was in need if caffeine so we decided to try to get to a coffee house... Impossible we were stuck in our village flooding had caused mayhem & the trees down was awful. We've got an Audi TT this sports can is not getting through any large puddles let alone lakes!
Below picture is normally just a field !

We tried 3 different routes out of our village all failed miserably !
We got back home & how thankful for our little camper van was I !
Hot coffee! Strong hot coffee!

Whilst drinking coffee & mopping the house trying to unblock the drain to get the water moving it was a hectic day!

To cheer the children up later after lunch we let the children open a few Christmas presents. We knew we probably wouldn't be staying home for Christmas but knew we couldn't take all the presents with us either. They had fun it cheered us all up.

Thankfully we've been able to stay in a huge 11 bedroom house in the countryside it was numerous playrooms huge kitchen & acres of outside land. This is where we are spending our Christmas. Actually it's really lovely. The children slept in bunkbeds last night & Father Christmas came to visit them. We are now waiting to open the Christmas presents that are here.
It's got creepy quirky things like this - which I LOVE!  & a huge stair case ...

A playroom ...

The house is so big I get lost, have you seen the film 'The Shining?' Ha this house has corridors like that. Emilyn is riding this trike round it I'm half expecting her to say "Red Rob" with her little finger in that creepy voice ( only people who know the film will understand )
Merry Christmas all you wonderful people.
You know me always to make a best situation out of something awful.
Opening their stockings this morning.

Have a fabulous Christmas & a happy new year!

Light bulb competition crafty Christmas

I recently had an email telling me all about the LightBulbs-Direct new ‘Light Bulbles’ Xmas Crafting Competition!
As I've been doing my Crafty Christmas blog posts this month I thought this would match up perfectly! If you wish to take part take a look here also here is terms & conditions

Here is my Step by step guide how to make Christmas 'Bulbles' Baubles for under 50 ' ish pence...

What you need : Bulb Lights Crafty Christmas
What you need :

  • Old light Bulbs
  • Spray paint
  • Glitter
  • Yarn/String
  • Newspaper

Honestly this must of taken me under 20 minutes & in-between cleaning the house for Christmas too.

Here is your step by step guide:

1) First thing you must do is tie your string/yarn/wool around your bulb. I didn't do this with my first one & the spray paint didn't like it one bit!

2) Spray paint your bulb - any colour you wish. I chose Gold.

3) Sprinkle your glitter - I used silver & gold.

4) Hang & admire

5) Let it dry for 12 hours at least

6) Then spray with hairspray, it will gleam beautifully.

7) Done. Time for a cuppa tea?

I love the look of this one; it reminds me of an Autumn Acorn
I love that I've taken part in this competition I would never in a million years to decorate a light bulb!
I do think they look amazing...

I love the fact that I'm recycling something that is no longer in use for its original purpose.

This is in no doubt a Light bulb. It's definitely not pretending to be a 'Bauble' It's a Light bulb.
A rather beautiful rustic light bulb.

Gold spray with silver glitter - this Bulb blends in as a bauble so well.
